Dental Care for Nervous or Phobic Patients
At Glenholme Dental Centre, we understand that visiting the dentist can be a source of anxiety or even fear for many people. Whether you’ve had a negative experience in the past or simply feel uneasy about dental treatment, we’re here to change the way you feel about your visits—compassionately and without judgment.
We’ve created a supportive, welcoming environment for patients who feel nervous or phobic about dental care. From your very first contact with us, we’re committed to making your experience as calm and stress-free as possible.
Julie, our dedicated Treatment Care Coordinator, is your first point of contact. She takes the time to speak with you before any treatment begins to understand your concerns, explain your options, and walk you through what to expect. Julie is here to answer your questions, offer reassurance, and help tailor your care plan to your needs—at your pace.
We’ve made thoughtful changes throughout the practice to create a more comfortable, calming experience for nervous patients:
- Quiet Area: We offer a private, quiet space away from the main waiting area—perfect for those who prefer a peaceful environment before their appointment.
- On-Site Counselling Service: For those needing additional emotional support, we offer access to a qualified counsellor who specialises in dental anxiety and phobia.
- Ceiling-Mounted TVs: Watch your favourite shows or calming visuals on the ceiling screens in our treatment rooms to help distract and relax you during procedures.
- Soothing Music: Our waiting area features calming background music to help reduce anxiety and create a serene atmosphere.
Our clinical team has undergone additional training to support patients with dental anxiety:
- Dedicated Dentists for Nervous Patients: Our dentists are not only experienced but specially trained to work with nervous and phobic individuals using gentle techniques and a calm, reassuring approach.
- The Wand – Painless Injections: Say goodbye to traditional syringes. We use The Wand, a computer-controlled device that delivers virtually painless local anaesthetic.
- Intraoral Cameras: We use high-resolution intraoral cameras to take detailed images of your teeth—quickly, comfortably, and without any discomfort. It allows us to show you exactly what we see, helping you feel more informed and in control.
- Sedation Options:
- Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – A gentle, fast-acting sedative to help you relax while staying awake.
- Intravenous (IV) Sedation – For deeper relaxation, administered by a trained professional to ensure your comfort and safety.
From our friendly reception staff to our compassionate dental nurses, everyone at Glenholme Dental Centre is committed to providing a supportive and non-judgmental space. We’re here to listen, reassure, and help you take control of your oral health—on your terms.
If you’re a nervous patient, we encourage you to get in touch and speak with Julie, our Treatment Care Coordinator, for a confidential and understanding conversation about how we can help.
